Soul of Philanthropy

July 19 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join us for a moving afternoon of storytelling that honors the rich legacy of Black individuals who shaped the West Boulevard corridor into a place of resilience, pride, and progress. Descendants of local trailblazers will bring their ancestors’ stories to life, spotlighting the untold histories that deserve center stage.

This program is presented by The Soul of Philanthropy CLT Homecoming, New Generation of African American Philanthropists (NGAAP), and the West Boulevard Neighborhood Coalition, in conjunction with the Charlotte Museum of History’s exhibition, “The Soul of Philanthropy: Reframed and Exhibited.”

About the Exhibit:

“The Soul of Philanthropy” is a groundbreaking, multimedia experience that reimagines the book Giving Back by Valaida Fullwood and Charles Thomas. Through luminous photographic prints, digital storytelling, music, poetry, and film, the exhibit explores the deep-rooted traditions of Black philanthropy—grounded in faith, mutuality, responsibility, and social justice. This Charlotte homecoming marks a return to the city where the exhibit first debuted, now expanded to include stories and images from across the Carolinas.

This in-person event offers a unique opportunity to connect with others who share a passion for preserving and honoring our community’s legacy. Come learn, engage, and leave inspired.
